Gibbous Moon

Those born during the Gibbous Phase have an innate desire for perfection. Having sharp, analytical minds, they have a need to understand. Looking at a subject from all angles, they experience sheer joy when delving into the core of the matter.

They live their lives in anxious expectation augmented by the breath of the coming revelation. Children born at this time will not be happy with the answers, they will want to know why and how the answer came about. Gibbous Moon people make good apprentices as their goal is to learn all they can and become as good as they can get.

Moon in Aquarius

Original, knowledgeable, competent, has strong opinions.
Likes: freedom and reading.
Hates: mediocrity and incompetence.

They have their own, distinct and sometimes very original opinion. It is very important for these individuals to retain their independence and they don’t like their personal life to be anybody else’s concern.

Often the Moon in Aquarius individuals have some outstanding abilities in one or another field. They often take a central place in the company of like-minded friends. They can become really alone in their personal life, and their constant urge for independence can lead to chronic emotional stress.

There is an impression that at times they are getting tired of themselves which leads to trying to change abruptly; as if to become a different person.

To restore after a significant stress they need to have a hobby which they could plunge themselves into and forget about the surrounding world. It would be really good for them if they could speak out their problems, but this is not so easy, because Lunar Aquarian’s do not like to just chat with anyone about anything. They prefer dealing with experts in their field of interest – this is with whom they are ready to talk endlessly and if there is no such a person around, a good book could serve as a replacement for a friend.

There is a very idealistic and progressive streak in Lunar Aquarians that is admirable indeed. However, when the Moon is in Aquarius, natives often will deny the more irrational qualities of emotions—such as jealousy, possessiveness, and fear—in an effort to be “above” what they consider “pettiness”. When this goes too far, Lunar Aquarians can be emotionally blocked, distant, and detached.

Moon in Aquarius people are rarely flighty people, but they can be unreliable when it concerns the little things in life. Often, this is simply an assertion of their independence. In the long haul, however, they are rather constant, as Aquarius is a fixed sign. As long as they have their own space and the freedom to be themselves, however kooky that may be, they are trustworthy and loyal.

Thoughts

This is actually scarily accurate. I’ve never considered my Moon Sign or the phase of the moon important (or as important as my Star/Sun sign) but this really does explain some aspects of the Libran personality type that has never quite fit.

It makes me appreciate how complicated astrology is.

Goddess Archetype: Artemis

I’ve always had a connection with images of Artemis and the idea of bows and arrows – I’ve just never really been interested in doing any research on the matter. After completing this quiz in my 4SJ coursework I found that Artemis was one of the Goddess’ I relate to the most – coincidence? I did a quick look around on Artemis and what she stands for.
I mostly used this link as my reference.

Myths and Stories

• Artemis may have, early on, prior to later Greek patriarchal manipulation, been the Great Mother, triple in her power as Maiden, Mother and Crone. Artemis may likely be one of the oldest of all the Greek goddesses–belonging to the most ancient layer of human memory.
• Artemis’ mother was Leto, a nature deity who bore Artemis without pain. Artemis’ father was Zeus.
• Artemis, directly following her own birth–a newborn, herself, Artemis assisted as midwife to her mother, Leto, throughout a very difficult birth to her twin brother, Apollo. Artemis was subsequently considered a goddess of childbirth.
• Classic Greek historians, on the other hand, depict her as a virgin who never mothers a child of her own, shunning men and living in the forest on the fringe of the inhabited world.
• Mother of Birth and of Death/Huntress and taker of life – representing both the Light and the Dark side of the goddess’ nature.
• Makes sacred; solitude, natural and primitive living.
• Not flattered by or interested in male suitors. She turned one spying man into a deer and his hunting dogs, no longer recognizing him, tore him apart.

Weaknesses

• She tends to avoid her vulnerability in relation to others–hiding her emotional needs, even to herself.
• Artemis tends toward emotional distancing–difficulty trusting relationship.
• Growth for Artemis type woman is in developing her less conscious, human relationship side of herself.
• Artemis type needs rewarding and challenging goals toward which to strive, if Artemis is unable to find fulfilling self-expression in her life she will feel increasingly frustrated and depressed.

Thoughts

I definitely relate to Artemis and what she represents. It should be very interesting to find out what she has to teach me over the course of the 4SJ.

Happy New Year – Dark Moon

This weekend was the Dark of the Moon and lucky for me I got the weekend off work. My fiance and I went camping in the middle of the Australian bush next to a beautiful river that flowed down from the mountains. I saw this as the opposite of the first full moon of 2013 as it marks the end or beginning of the first moon cycle of the year (depending on how you look at it I guess).

Not much conscious decision making or planning went into this trip. I’d only gotten the weekend off maybe two days beforehand, we started packing at 10.30pm the night before which led to us forgetting a bunch of stuff and we hadn’t even really decided where we were going until we started unpacking the car. I must say though, it was one of the best holidays I’ve had.

The purpose of the get away, for me, was to celebrate the new moon but I didn’t take any of my ritual items a part from my diary and some herbs. In hindsight though everything I needed was there – Brian and I, nature, a fire, some paper and a pen. This year is a big one for us as individuals and us as a couple. Big changes are coming, our personalities will be tested and we’ll be pushed to our limits. Lots of decisions need to be made, responsibilities need fulfilling and experiencing life needs to be made a priority. We talked, contemplated, laughed, made love, feared and comforted each other. We learnt about each other as we always do whilst camping – it always leaves us closer together than when we start unpacking the tent on the first day (a clear sign is how much we fight when we’re putting it up vs. taking it down).

Before we were about to leave we washed ourselves in the river and both wrote down our wishes and hopes for the coming year. We read them to each other and they both contained the same basic elements – then we sent them down the river.
